The Wall Street Journal recently reported that, “The new “Green” economy will provide unparalleled opportunities for regional economic development. Those who are savvy enough to position their communities to take advantage of this unique window will do so by integrating their economic, social and environmental concerns in their policy-making. Cities that are unable to adapt will have to continue to contend with myriad economic challenges that negatively affect them.”

Brought about by a swift change in attitude, we have been inundated by requests from all over North America to educate municipalities both large and small about the impact of greening and sustaining cities and towns. We have started to refocus our impact on the economy of our part of the world and feel that with our eco-credentials we need to mobilize groups to listen to the experts, and talk to the leaders of our communities to make a better future. Sustainable City Conferences will be the leader in bringing together business people, designers and planners with the pioneers of alternative energy, sustainable economic development and proper green planning.

North America’s leading Sustainability Publication green@work has partnered with Confederation College in Northwestern Ontario, Canada and regional environmental organizations to host the region’s first Eco-Conference in March 2008. Green@Work. spokesman and Publisher Dennis Walsh stated that the College was chosen as the venue because of its award winning energy reduction efforts and its’ historical support of business and economic development in the North.” Walsh went on to say,” Our Magazine is a major partner of the Second Nature program in the U.S which was announced by former President Bill Clinton at this years’ GreenBuild 2007 Conference in Atlanta.

The Second Nature program is all about greening campuses so we wanted to pick a well respected educational institution for the event and since we have decided to make Thunder Bay the home of our new Canadian Bureau, Confederation College was a natural choice. Walsh went further to highlight the basic goal of the historic event. “The Green North Eco-Conference 2008 will emphasize the establishment of a regional plan that would emphasize the value of green economic development and share best practices already underway in northern communities. We have the capacity and the ability to create a remarkably different economy in the north, one that can restore eco-systems and protect the region’s environment while bringing forth innovation, meaningful employment opportunities and true sustainable prosperity.”
