The Green Team

The Green North Eco Conference will feature the establishment of The Green Team. The Green Team’s goal is to build a strong economy for Northern Ontario. This informal, not-for-profit network of individuals will work together to navigate the rapidly changing landscape of sustainability practice helping Northern Ontario businesses innovate and compete. An NGO designed to take a pragmatic problem-solving approach to identifying and engaging diverse stakeholder groups to ensure a successful outcome for “green” projects particularly in the creation of new “green collar” jobs, the Green Team will work together to attract new growth and investment to our region, supporting Northern Ontario businesses expanding their exports.

The Green Team will make well-researched recommendations for public and policy development to attract investment and stimulate the economy. These recommendations will incorporate cost-benefit, social equity and political considerations in the analysis. The Team will develop and launch new “green” program initiatives to create, produce, market and sell “green” products and services. The Team will recommend the best way to implement five strategic goals. These goals are:

Knowledge and Skills — building Northern Ontario through ideas that are on the cutting edge, thus making the region known for its high quality and adaptable work force, creativity and entrepreneurship.

Innovation Culture — creating innovation capacity throughout Ontario’s economy and translating ideas and research into commercial success.

Strong Global Orientation — making Northern Ontario known for its export and international trade performance, and home to the world’s best and brightest.

Industry and Regional Strength — ensuring that Northern Ontario realizes its full economic development potential as homes to globally competitive, thriving businesses, economic clusters and communities.

Favourable Business Climate — making Northern Ontario one of the best places in North America to invest and do business. Partners and financial resources will be identified to support these efforts, and to determine timelines and metrics to guide implementation in the following areas:

Emissions, Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy
Waste, Materials Reduction and Recycling
Land Use and Transportation Strategies
Water and Environment
Green Building for Industry, institutions, residences
New Capital Investments (equipment, buildings and infrastructure)
